Seeing the Right Eye Doctor for Your Vision Condition
For routine eye care including refractions, contact lens evaluations, or annual eye exams to detect and treat common eye problems and certain chronic eye diseases, you can see either an optometrist or a general ophthalmologist.
For medical related eye conditions, ophthalmologists can provide a greater scope of treatment options including eye surgery. For complex or specific medical eye problems such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataracts and external diseases, you may want to consult or get a referral to see an ophthalmologist with advanced fellowship or subspecialty training.
At Chao Vision Institute, your total vision care often will be co-managed by both types of eye doctors to ensure optimal vision health & wellness for a lifetime.
Doctors have unique, 'inside' perspective about who's at the top of their profession,
who's up on the latest advances in their field, and therefore,
where they personally would turn for state-of-the-art care when faced with a serious medical problem."
